Grant turned professional in 1988, establishing himself as a formidable middleweight. After graduating with a BA from Concordia in 1993, he secured the NABF middleweight title twice and gained recognition as the first black Quebecer to win a boxing championship in 1997.

THE FOUNDATION

Mission

The Otis Grant & Friends foundation supports individuals and families in hardship by providing essential resources like food, clothing, and scholarships. We collaborate with other charitable organizations to extend help beyond basics, assisting families facing medical difficulties and supporting education for bright students from less fortunate backgrounds. Our aim is to create a community where everyone, despite their circumstances, has access to vital resources and opportunities.

History & Activities

Founded in November 1999 in Montreal, the Foundation initially concentrated on aiding the less fortunate through Christmas Food Drives for churches, homeless shelters, community organizations, food banks, and soup kitchens. Over time, our initiatives expanded to encompass healthcare, summer camps, and educational assistance.

Community

The foundation proudly backs the West Island Black Community Association (WIBCA) scholarship program, supporting education initiatives in our community.

Every year, we make it possible for kids from struggling families to have an amazing time at summer camp. We also lend a hand to high school students with special needs. Building lasting connections, our foundation collaborates closely with community groups dedicated to supporting families facing hardships. When summer rolls around, these partners often reach out, asking for our help to send kids from underserved backgrounds to summer camp.

Education

As the primary sponsor of LBPSB and the West Island Chamber of Commerce’s “Discover the Stars Science” competition, we proudly endorse the “Alien Proudfoot Award.” This prestigious honour recognizes exceptional male and female science students, awarding each recipient a $3,000 scholarship through a generous donation.

Our foundation is dedicated to aiding underprivileged students in pursuing higher education by providing vital scholarship funds. Additionally, we actively support various school lunch programs, ensuring students have access to nutritious meals crucial for their academic growth and overall well-being. Partnering with the La Corde program, we have long supported educational initiatives to enhance students’ learning experiences.

We offer scholarships to graduating students from PCHS Pierrefonds Community High School embarking on post-secondary studies. Recipients are carefully chosen by the PCHS Pierrefonds graduation committee through a thorough selection process.
